Datex-Ohmeda was originally founded in 1990 as Datex, Inc. with offices based in Madison Wisconsin. The name was changed to Datex-Ohmeda in 1999 and, shortly thereafter, it was acquired briefly by the Hackett Group of companies. The company was re-incorporated in 2006 in the state of Delaware and currently, as part of the GE Healthcare umbrella of companies, the Datex-Ohmeda company offers innovative, state-of-the-art products and services as well as related software in more than 100 countries. It is now the industry leader in terms of sales volume, spending more than five million dollars each month with its suppliers.
The manufacturing facility is a 250,000 square foot factory that sits on 166 acres and employs 650 full-time skilled workers. After an initial period of internal difficulty in establishing effective protocol and manufacturing procedures, the company formed a management group to oversee supply chain and production issues. The purpose was to aid in the development of superior practices and relationships with suppliers and clients and to provide the best possible training for its employees. Due to emphasis on training and quality control, the company has developed a well-deserved reputation as a manufacturer of the highest quality medical monitoring equipment.
The changing face of health care around the world and the ever growing need to replace old and outdated medical equipment with new is creating many new potential markets for the industry and Datex-Ohmeda is well situated to take advantage of them.
Included among the Datex-Ohmeda brand family of products are the most technically-advanced modular monitoring devices, medical supplies and electronic patient care machines available anywhere in the world, addressing more than 25 specific areas of patient care and care maintenance in fields as diverse as anesthesia machines, airway management supplies, heat-moisture exchangers and neonatal micro-environment machines. The recent move to the development of total care stations has opened the door to opportunities for added patient value.
Virtually no area of need is unaddressed. Datex-Ohmeda products are designed for care-specific measurement and monitoring applications and work in tandem with appropriate related software. Because the products and software are continually tested to insure compatibility with existing systems, reliable readings and parameter output is assured. Dependable information is, after all, the foundation of quality patient care.
Hospitals and medical facilities around the globe rely on the quality and dependability of these products to provide the ultimate in patient services and care. Examples of the advanced thinking of the company are evidenced by its development of not only stationary, in-room equipment and monitoring devices but by the introduction of reliable and effective portable, easy to use monitoring and measurement devices such as the Pulse Oximeter. These remarkable machines can be essential in critical situations that occur outside of the facility, during transport or in other emergency scenarios.
Datex-Ohmeda is in the process of continuing research and development. Based on its track record and history of proven success, what innovations are next is anybody's guess.
